Art of the Melt

Art of the MeltIn UAlbany’s Boor Sculpture Studio, a piece of scrap bronze sits atop a melt furnace burning at 2000 degrees Fahrenheit — as hot as volcanic lava. Once the heat softens the metal, it is crumpled and lowered into the crucible to melt completely. Students help recycle the molten metal by pouring it into molds for reuse. Photo by Patrick Dodson
