A Decade of Dedication and Service

A Decade of Dedication and Service

2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the Massry Community Service Fellows program, an initiative that allows students from across the University to pursue internships with local nonprofits that don’t normally have funding available to support student internships.

The program was established by a generous gift from the Massry family, one of the Capital Region’s most influential and philanthropic families, and its goal is to strengthen community service and public engagement — a core value shared by the University and the Massrys — while providing students with hands-on experience that links their academic studies.

To date, 43 Massry Community Service Fellows have provided more than 17,000 hours of community service to over 30 nonprofits, including the following:

  • United Way of the Greater Capital Region
  • American Red Cross
  • City Mission of Schenectady
  • Ronald McDonald House
  • Trinity Alliance
  • American Cancer Society
  • Red Bookshelf
  • 15-Love
  • Alliance for Positive Health
  • South End Children’s Café

“We are filled with gratitude for the three generations of the Massry family who, through their generosity, continue to provide transformative opportunities for UAlbany students and inspire the University and the Capital Region with their leadership,” said Fardin Sanai, UAlbany’s vice president of University Advancement.
