Art of the MeltIn UAlbany’s Boor Sculpture Studio, a piece of scrap bronze sits atop a melt furnace burning at 2000 degrees Fahrenheit — as hot as volcanic lava. Once the heat softens the metal, it is crumpled and lowered into the crucible to melt completely. Students help recycle the molten metal by pouring it into molds for reuse. Photo by Patrick Dodson

By providing scholarship support after a student successfully completes an unpaid internship, the The Buzen Fellowship for Future Leaders delivers a dual impact: rewarding students for their commitment while also strengthening nonprofit and mission-driven organizations that may not have the resources to offer paid positions.
A green “LG” lapel pin worn by UAlbany men’s lacrosse head coach Scott Marr honors the legacy of Liam Gleason, the late University at Albany alum, former player and assistant coach, and Siena College head coach who died in December at 41. More than 1,000 pins were distributed to men’s lacrosse coaches across all three NCAA divisions to wear during the season’s opening weekend, Feb. 13–15. The Intercollegiate Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Association also established The Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award, which will recognize one athlete from each of the 77 NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse programs for leadership, sportsmanship, service and steadfast support of teammates and staff.
