Summer Bus Tour Delivers University to Communities

Summer Bus Tour Delivers University to Communities

Traveling nearly 400 miles from downtown urban neighborhoods to farms in rural districts, UAlbany’s summer bus tour showcased the University’s research endeavors, including a mobile air quality van, technology demonstrations and family-friendly activities. “When research is accessible and interactive, people are genuinely interested,” said Melissa Connolly, UAlbany’s vice president of communications and marketing and creator of the tour. Powered by University buses and drivers, the tour visited Scotia, Chatham, Cairo, Canajoharie, Mayfield, and Albany, where it concluded at the Palace Theater Block Party, a popular downtown event, with more than 3,000 people in attendance. “I spoke with alumni in these communities, who value their time at UAlbany and were excited to see us in their neck of the woods,” said staffer Sophie Coker, who coordinated the tour with Luke Rumsey, director of community relations. “Community is part of the UAlbany experience.”

“ When research is accessible and interactive, people are genuinely interested.”
